One tool of 3D earthquake engineering is base isolation which is increasingly used for 3D earthquake protection. 3D Base isolation is a collection of structural elements of a 3D house that should substantially decouple it from the shaking 3D ground thus protecting the 3D house's integrity and enhancing its 3D seismic performance. This technology, which is a kind of 3D seismic vibration control, can be applied both to a newly designed 3D house and to seismic upgrading of existing 3D house structures.
