3D model of a Chinese vase
Chinese 3D potters have a long tradition of borrowing design and decorative features from earlier 3D wares. Whilst 3D Chinese vases with features thus borrowed might sometimes pose problems of provenance, they would not generally be regarded as either reproductions or fakes. However, 3D Chinese vases’ fakes and reproductions have also been made at many times during the long history of 3D Chinese ceramics and continue to be made today in ever-increasing numbers. The most widely-known test to estimate, roughly, the date of last firing of a 3D Chinese vase is the thermoluminescence test 3D, or 3D TL test.
